Found out yesterday I was promoted and work never told me. Typically in the academy you go in as a trainee and have to wait a year to become a level one. There is no exact path to becoming a two so most likely you stay a one unless you become a SGT or above. I got a raise in July that I thought was related to my current position and didn't think anything about it. But seems they put in and were able to promote me to a two, which is great, but they never told me. Seems now I out rank three of my instructors at the academy...won't mention that when getting smoked though!

Huge mistake! Was no show for CISSP test
Ok, so I haven't posted on here in several mos. I took and failed my CISSP 2X. Once over Christmas last year, and then I attempted again in Feb this year with the same result. I decided to try for a 3rd time and scheduled for November 3. Well, I signed up mos. ago and since then I have moved to another state. I switched to a place here in CO, but the test was last weekend and I totally forgot! I actually hadn't been studying because I still haven't unpacked all my stuff, so I planned to push it off another few most, but for some reason I thought I scheduled it around Thanksgiving. Now I have no idea what to do. I am assuming I have lost my $700. UGHHH. This move has been a nightmare. I moved from Florida to Colorado because my family hated FL. I had the opportunity to move and took it. Now I ams stuck out here on my own because my hubs is having trouble finding a job. My company paid relocation so I have to be here a year. To make matters worse we bought a house here and I have an HOUR commute one way. I did it for the hubs but now I am regretting it all!! Needless to say, even though it sounds like an excuse I completely spaced on this test date. I feel like a total idiot.

No luck with CISSP, considering trying CISM...is this reasonable??
I have tried and failed my CISSP 2X. I felt like I truly knew the material and was doing well on my practice tests. SO the first time I failed wasn't as shocking. I took it over Christmas vacation last Dec (so yes, almost a year ago) but didn't have time to devote to studying as much as I thought I would during that last week. I reached for Feb 2018, and even took a week off work to study and still did not pass. I feel very defeated by that test. I just don't understand how to study for that test when they give you study questions in one format but then the actual test questions are completely different in a different format. I 'get' that they are not going to be verbatim, but I felt like I was taking a totally different test. My study materials given to me from the week long CISSP prep was VERY misleading. I am ready to give it another try, but am wondering if CISM might be a better fit? Not that I expect it to be easier. I just wonder if the test isn't as weird as the CISSP. Something in my brain just does not understand that test, even though I feel confident about the material. UGH. Just need some advice.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Just passed Digital Forensics Professional
So finally I passed the Digital Forensics Professional Exam from eLearnSecurity. This exam gave me so much new learning in the field of digital forensics. This course is really a must even if you are in a SOC position as it helps you on your log and file analysis as well as carving network pcaps and recovering corrupted disk. The exam is not easy for me but very fulfilling once you finished the it!
Shoutout to dimitrios, the training director of eLearnSecurity for such a fantastic customer support service. Every time I have question to him, it only took him atleast 15mins to reply and immediately helped me from lab issues up to some confusion on the exam. One of the best support I had! Thanks man! The only topics that I wanted to learn in depth is memory forensics which is not covered on this course, but hopefully they will add this module in the future updates!
I'll start my journey now to eCPPT and will take a rest for 2 days. Hope to finish eCPPT before new year!
PS. I'll make a blog soon about my journey on eJPT, eCDFP and also eCPPT once I finished it!
Thanks ELS for this awesome experience.

eLearnSecurity - Penetration Testing Professional (eCPPT) Journey
So after taking the Digital Forensics Professional from eLearnSecurity, I am about to take PTP course as my last cert for this year. Initially, my goal for this year is to complete atleast one cert per quarter for me to keep going and be active at all levels. Now, here's my brief background.
- Passed CFR (CyberSec First Responder) - March 2018
- Passed eJPT (Junior Penetration Tester) - July 2018
- Passed eCDFP (Digital Forensics Professional) - September
- Been with Blue Team (SOC/IR) for 6 years and counting
Now my goal is to atleast finish eCPPT before the year ends or atleast before the end of January 2019 (I'm just being realistic because of too much labs covered in the course :) ) and this will serve as my journey and will keep you guys posted for every progress that I will make throughout this course.
Thank you! :)

70-697 and 70-698 Being Retired
From what I see online Microsoft is retiring the 70-697 and 70-698 exams on March 31st, 2019. As someone who is new to the Microsoft certifications, how should this affect my plans if I'm planning to take the exams soon and aiming to complete both the Mobility and Productivity (Windows Server 2016) paths?

Can I still get a software job?
I'm 23 years old and want to major in Computer Science. I want to work as a software engineer one day, but the issue is two years ago I got arrested for a misdemeanor, but I wasn't convicted of it and it later was expunged. What are my chances of being a software engineer?

JUST PASSED CYSA+ (763/750) On 2nd Attempt*
I barely passed, but a win is a win!
I took the CYSA+ on March, 2018 and failed (730/750); So life got in the way and i started to study for the CYSA+ on October 25, 2018 - November 11, 2018.
I spent most of the time, reading the Sybex CSA+ book exam summary and the highlighted/annotated notes i had previously documented; I went over the exam objectives and was able to define and explain the majority of information within the exam objectives. I then spent alot of time taking practice exams:
1) Read CYSA+ Sybex from Cover to Cover.
2) Udemy CYSA+ Practice Exams (11.99)
3) CYSA+ Practice Exam Book from Sybex:
https://www.amazon.com/CompTIA-CySA-.../dp/B07B1HJBJC
Key Aspects:
1) No Time Issues (3HRs)
2) During simulations (Document on laminated testing paper)
3) The questions/output presented will be a paragraph worth of information; but the question being asked often may be completely indifferent to what was explained.
4) The exam is heavily predicated on Scenarios and has a few Simulations.
Discount:
I purchase a voucher from Comptia Academic you need a .edu email account, but I saved a 140 bucks off my voucher, I paid only $215 for the exam. www.academic-store.comptia.org
Opinion:
I have found the exam to be very difficult, but much more pragmatic to real life, I work within the industry (3 years) and much of ability to discredit an option was from my experience mostly. Comptia did an excellent job in creating this exam it's for sure real life!
I took the CCNA Cyber Ops and it was more predicated on memorizing terms and frameworks; Despite my failures and barely passing this exam was fun to take and in my opinion better than CCNA Cyber Ops.

3 Tests for MCSA, + 1 more test to get *2* MCSEs? Am I reading this right?
I was looking to get an MCSA to start validating some of my Microsoft skills.
Originally I was thinking to do MCSA Office365, but I know nothing about ADFS currently, nor SharePoint and I know those are big portions of those tests per the requirement. Looking at where I can get bang-for-my-buck, I Checked out this PDF (direct link)
And it looks like several of the paths shown include MCSA Windows Server 2016.
in fact.... if I am reading this right.
from MCSA Server 2016, you add one test from the list below, and you get
MCSE: Core Infrastructure (in Jan 2019 once it's released) , and
MCSE: cloud platform and infrastructure. 2 MCSE's for one test above the MCSA: 2016?
Thoughts?
I'm currently using ITPro.tv's trainings and practice tests to assess where I am lacking in knowledge and where to focus most of all with server 2016.
In a long goal, I would like to finish MCSA Office 365 too, as Office 365 is one of my areas of focus and I think that and Azure are only going to continue to become a larger demand

MCSA Question types
Hi guys,
Studying for my first Microsoft test. I'm studying with ITPro.tv right now, and using their Practice tests (Kaplan?)
I have run accross these "fill in the command"(-let) questions several times in a practice test. This one I got in hand, but on another I missed for something like Get-AuditEvents rather than Get-AuditEvent. Are these fill in the blank, with free-typed questions on the actual test?
If it was something like multiple choice, get-command to list available, or tab complete then I'm confident, but I'm worried at the prospect of having to remember things like whether a command is plural or not

I used Mike Griffiths book as well as the PMP Prepcast ACP exam simulator. I am currently an Agile PM so that also helped me to ace the exam with no problems.

Should i go for the CCNA Security after Passing CCNP R/S?
Hi I passed the CCNP R/S earlier this year and if i'm being honest security has always interested me the most in networking, i'd probably rank them as follows:
Security
R/S
Wireless
Voice (really dislike voice)
I'm wondering if it's worth going for the CCNA security? I feel like i'd be able to pass it but is it worth it now after getting the CCNP and would employers even look at it?
Thanks
